1. Information CapStudio uses
CapStudio may access the following categories of information depending on which features you use:
- Photos and videos: when you import clips from your photo library.
- Camera and microphone: when you choose to record a new clip in the app.
- Audio from your clip: to generate captions and timing data.
- Purchase status: to determine whether Pro subscription features are active.
- Optional stock media requests: if you use B-roll search, CapStudio sends your search query to Pexels.
2. How caption generation works
CapStudio uses on-device speech transcription to turn spoken audio into captions. Your imported or recorded video is processed locally on the device for the core transcription workflow used to build captions and timing.
If you use translation or Apple Intelligence-powered editing features available through your device and OS, those features follow Apple’s platform behavior and availability.
3. Data storage
Projects, generated caption timing, visual styling choices, exports, thumbnails, and related editing state are stored locally on your device unless you explicitly share or save exported media elsewhere.
- Imported media references and project edits are stored locally for editing continuity.
- Exported videos can be saved back to your photo library only when you ask the app to do so.
- CapStudio does not require account creation to use the core editing workflow.
4. Third-party services
- RevenueCat: used to load offerings, process subscription status, and restore purchases through Apple’s in-app purchase system.
- Pexels: used only when you trigger stock B-roll search or download stock clips inside the editor.
- Firebase Analytics: used for app usage events such as launches, project creation, editor tools, and export flow performance.
- Firebase Crashlytics: used to collect crash reports and non-fatal diagnostics so stability issues can be fixed.
- TelemetryDeck: analytics is still supported by the app code, but only sends events if it is configured in the shipped build.
5. Purchases and billing
In-app purchases are handled by Apple. CapStudio does not directly receive your full payment card details. RevenueCat is used to validate and reflect subscription entitlement status inside the app.
6. Your choices
- You can deny camera, microphone, or photo permissions, but related features will not work until permission is granted.
- You can remove exported videos from Photos using the Photos app.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your App Store account settings.
- You can reset local app data from the Settings screen inside CapStudio.
7. Children’s privacy
CapStudio is listed with a 4+ age rating on the App Store. The app is a general video editing tool and is not designed as a child-directed service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when CapStudio features, integrations, or legal requirements change. The updated policy will be posted on this page.
